Unique Places LLC (UP) is proud to be part of an ongoing restoration project in Siler City.  UP through our brokerage division, Unique Places Real Estate (UPRE), is currently engaged with Piedmont Conservation Council (PCC) to assist in the purchase of four properties along the Loves Creek Tributary.  The final two properties received the approved contracts to purchase in May, 2019.  The four properties will be restored with the involvement of the Loves Creek Watershed Stewards to potentially add additional greenspace and recreation areas for the community and restore the impaired waterway.  Restoration activities will include environmental assessments and cleanup, demolition and removal of an abandoned, inhabitable home, invasive species removal and wetland restoration. Once the restoration activities have been completed, the Town of Siler City will acquire the assemblage of properties from PCC.

PCC is a North Carolina 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on natural resource conservation and development issues in Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Guilford, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham and Wake Counties.  They “aim to promote water quality, natural resource conservation, farmland preservation, and economic improvement and development”.

PCC was awarded funding through the Environmental Enhanced Grant (EEG) for the acquisition of each property and for stream restoration, stormwater improvement, wetland enhancement, and passive park and walking trails.  The EEG program was created in 2003 by the NC Attorney General and Smithfield Foods “to provide funding to projects that preserve, enhance and protect North Carolina’s environment and natural resources”.

Catherine Coley, the Broker in Charge of UPRE, stated “It has been a pleasure to be a part of PCC and the Town of Siler City’s mission.  I have had to the opportunity to talk with many of the property heirs and many members of the community to learn the history of the property’s and be a small part of an improvement project that will benefit to the community. It has been an amazing experience!  Not all real estate brokers have the opportunity to be a part of something this rewarding and get the chance to do what they love while giving back to the community”.

Grace Messinger, the Project Director for PCC, who has worked closely with Catherine Coley to see this project through stated, "Working with Catherine and UPRE has been a great asset to the project and process. Catherine's knowledge of the land acquisition process and her persistence to see this project through has been a huge blessing. PCC looks forward to closing on all the properties and moving to the next phase of the project...the restoration."
